From what he has shown over the past couple of games, Egor Demin is finally making a strong transition into becoming a promising building block in the Brooklyn Nets’ long-term plan.
But off the court, the rising star admitted that adjusting to his new life in downtown New York hasn't been easy.
Appearing recently on former NBA star Jimmy Fredette’s From The Logo podcast, Demin was asked about his expenses so far and the things he is planning to buy with his first NBA payout. For this, the Nets rookie dropped an interesting revelation about his current living situation in Brooklyn.
“I paid my rent, which was not easy,” Demin said. “It was frustrating. Coming from Utah to New York and paying for rent, it's pretty hard. I can't lie. That wasn’t mentally the easiest thing.
“I got some needs, some clothes, you know. I gotta now be on the same level with the status and clothes. Just kind of stuff like this. Furniture costs a lot here, too. Furniture also hurt, but we’ll see."

Growing up in Russia, Utah appeared to be a comfortable place for Demin after he spent his lone college season there with BYU last year.
As such, New York is definitely a much different place. From the environment, to the lifestyle and cost of living that the city offers, it's more than a culture-shock experience for the 19-year-old sensation.
But as the No. 8 overall pick of the past NBA Draft, Demin has plenty of spending power to meet his needs around Brooklyn, as he is set to earn nearly $7 million of his four-year, $31 million rookie contract this season.
Nevertheless, he is planning to be more practical by prioritizing his investments and savings as early as now.
"I’m not planning to buy a car this year, so I don’t think there’s going to be a big purchase," he added, "I think I’m just going to try to be smart with my money and look for opportunities where to invest it and make sure they’re safe."
