Celtics' Jaylen Brown sends clear message about NBA All-Star voting image

Jaylen Brown doesn’t seem too thrilled with his standing on the NBA’s All-Star voting.

The Boston Celtics star took to social media to send a clear message about his thoughts on the league’s first reveal after getting millions of fan votes.

“I agree PR contest,” Brown said in a post, in response to former NBA player, Michael Redd, who suggested that the game is a popularity contest.

“These votes are based on name recognition, which comes from past performance, social media presence, and off-field narratives. Not necessarily who's having the best season right now,” Redd wrote.

“Every year, guys who absolutely deserve it get left off because someone with six All-Star appearances is getting voted in for their seventh even when they probably shouldn't. ESPN always runs a sorta snub list. It's usually young players in small markets or guys having career years who just don't have the brand yet.”

Where Does Jaylen Brown Stand?

Despite calling out the results, Brown wasn’t exactly left off the list. With the top 20 players in the Eastern Conference revealed, Brown finished sixth in the initial voting with 808,276 votes.

The five players in front of him are Donovan Mitchell, Cade Cunningham, Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Maxey, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. The top four have over one million votes individually.

Brown, a 29-year-old former third pick, is no stranger to the All-Star game. In 2021, he notched his first All-Star appearance. He missed the game the following year, but was voted back in in 2023. With Brown making the last three All-Star games, he has four total to his name, along with an All-NBA and an NBA Finals MVP nod.

The Celtics weren’t expected to find much success in 2025-2026 in the absence of Jayson Tatum. Brown has proven the league and the Eastern Conference otherwise.

In 29 games, Brown has averaged 29.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. The Celtics are 19-12 on the year, placing third in the East, trailing only the New York Knicks and the Detroit Pistons

While the first round of votes doesn’t decide who makes the game, Brown has a good shot at notching his fifth All-Star nod.
