It’s known that the Trae Young chapter in the Atlanta Hawks’ book is about to come to a close, and he’s about to head on out in a blockbuster trade. The question is, where would he go?
Now, Young has made it known where he wants to go, and after almost the last decade, this franchise would be the last destination people would expect. According to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, Young wants to go to the Washington Wizards.
“Trae Young has the Washington Wizards as his top preferred trade destination, sources tell ESPN. Atlanta is working to move Young, who has a $49 million player option in offseason that would make him an expiring contract; or opt out, leave and give Hawks significant cap space,” Charania tweeted.
This season, the Wizards are 10-25 and second-to-last in the Eastern Conference. However, it seems their young core is starting to figure it out, as they are 6-4 in their last 10 games.
If they land Young, they can shut him down for the season, as they continue a final tanking season. This would allow them to potentially land a top-three pick in a loaded 2026 NBA Draft, AND get a healthy four-time All-Star back for the 2026-27 season, in the peak of his prime.
As for the Hawks, they would like this trade too. The Wizards have so many assets and young players, and for an Atlanta team starting to rebuild around Jalen Johnson, those assets could be exactly what they need.
Hopefully, both sides realize this and get to work on a trade.
