The Atlanta Hawks will face the Minnesota Timberwolves on New Year’s Eve.

The status of the star guard Trae Young is still in question.

Young recently experienced issues with a quad contusion. When the Hawks entered their matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team listed him as out.

Although Atlanta’s record without Young is a winning one this season, the absence of the star guard against the defending champions didn’t make a positive difference for them. The Hawks remain on a notable losing streak with seven losses in a row.

Will Trae Young Return vs. Timberwolves?

According to the official NBA injury report, the Hawks have Young listed as questionable for the outing.

Throughout the 2025-2026 NBA season, Young has been dealing with multiple setbacks. He missed a large chunk of the season after appearing in the first five matchups of the year.

Early on, Young averaged 17.8 points per game while shooting 37 percent from the field. He also dished out 7.8 assists per game.

Young would go on to miss 22 games in a row. He returned on December 18 to check in for 20 minutes. Since his return, Young has appeared in five games. During that stretch, he has shot 46 percent from the field and knocked down 39 percent of his threes. Young is posting averages of 20.8 points and 10.0 assists.

Yet, the solo production hasn’t translated to wins for Atlanta. They are currently on one of the league’s coldest streaks, as the Indiana Pacers are the only other team with more losses in a row.

The Hawks and the Timberwolves are slated for a 3 PM ET tip on Wednesday.
