On January 9th, the Atlanta Hawks faced off against the Denver Nuggets in a close, competitive game that remained close until the fourth quarter. The Hawks would outscore the Nuggets in the last quarter, 36-12, pulling away the dub. The final score is 110-87, marking the first game the Hawks have won since trading Trae Young to the Washington Wizards. What’s even better, one player reached an impressive milestone since playing in this league.
Dyson Daniels' first triple-double
Dyson Daniels was always known as a defensive specialist and is one of the best perimeter and pass interceptors in the NBA. Now, he’s shown he can be more than just having a defensive mind. During their game against the Nuggets, Daniels finally achieved his first triple-double of his career.
Daniels scored 17 points in 8-14 shooting from the field, grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds, and made a team-high 10 assists. He also recorded 4 steals, demonstrating his contribution across all categories of the game. Daniels had several opportunities to cross the triple-double threshold for several weeks, so this makes it all the more sweet for the franchise after trading away Trae Young, one of the best point guards in the league.
MORE: Dyson Daniels could receive a big role from the Atlanta Hawks
Even after acquiring CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, the Hawks seem to have full faith in Dyson Daniels and his all-around abilities, especially as a playmaker. With Daniels setting new season high averages for assists and rebounds, he has the opportunity to be a great duo with the rising star, Jalen Johnson.
Expect more usage from Daniels for the rest of the season as he continues to help the Hawks in many areas of the game. The Hawks' next game will be against the Golden State Warriors on January 11th.
