UFC 320 is in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on October 4. The early prelims start at 6:30 p.m. ET, while the prelims are at 8 p.m. ET. The main card starts at 10 p.m. ET, and Ankalaev and Pereira should make their way to the octagon around 12:30 a.m. ET, depending on how long the undercard fights last.
A multi-time gold medalist, Ankalaev (20-1-1 1 NC) has gone 12-1 with one no-contest since 2018, outstriking Pereira in March to win light heavyweight gold.
A former kickboxing champion, Pereira (12-3) was on a legendary five-fight win streak before losing against Ankalaev. A former kickboxing champion and multi-division UFC titleholder, Pereira attempts to regain gold.
Tensions are high between the fighters. Never one to back down from a challenge, Pereira believes that’s not the case for Ankalaev, who he alleged hid from him at the UFC Performance Institute.
"The fact that the guy hides in a room because I'm in the same place as him. Ah man, he's a chump. He’s a chump… What kind of champion is that man? A s--- champion," Pereira said via Sherdog.
"I know that's harsh, but he's a s----- champion man… He’s shown he’s a coward, man. Hiding now. We'll be in the cage, locked in there. Unless he jumps the fence. He's a s----- champion, this guy. Chama."
"Honestly, up until recently, I had respect for him as a fighter and as a person," Ankalaev responded via MMA Junkie. "I no longer respect him because, OK, trash talk is something to hype up the fight, maybe you say something funny, or to be salty, but when you lie to people and say, 'I saw him, and he hid,' and stuff like that he recently said, I don't respect people like that. Why would you lie about something that never happened?"
