While the Washington Nationals aren't going to be spending big this winter, they can still make some smaller moves to round out the roster and add nice depth.

Some of those moves might not draw a lot of attention when they happen, but in the middle of the season, those signings could turn into strong trade returns or promising players for years to come.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Nationals are making such a depth signing, as they're set to bring in a former New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers righty reliever who's also previously spent time with the Nationals back in the mid-2010s.

"Free-agent RHP Trevor Gott in agreement with Nationals on minor-league contract, source tells @The_Athletic," Rosenthal reported.

Trevor Gott is a 33-year-old righty reliever who's spent eight years in the Major Leagues. He broke into the Majors with the Los Angeles Angels in 2015, where he had a 3.02 ERA in 48 games.

He then joined the Nationals, where, in three seasons and across 33 games, Gott had a 7.39 ERA, thanks to an absurd 30.00 ERA in the 2017 season in four games for the Nationals.

Gott then bounced between the San Francisco Giants, Brewers, Seattle Mariners, and, most recently, the Mets in his Major League career.

His last MLB appearance came in 2023 with the Mets, where he had a 4.34 ERA in 34 appearances for the Mets.

This past season, he spent the year in the minor leagues, pitching to a 7.40 ERA in 24 games for the Mariners' Triple-A affiliate.

His one-year deal with the Nationals doesn't guarantee an MLB roster spot, but he'll likely get a chance to prove himself in Spring Training, and at worst, in the minors during the regular season.
