It's not often that a 23-year old who has produced at the MLB level is a free agent.
But the Colorado Rockies chose after the season not to keep Warming Bernabel under a contract going forward. On Friday, the Washington Nationals took advantage.
Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post has reported that Bernabel has signed a minor-league contract with the Nats that includes an invite to MLB spring training.
Bernabel made his MLB debut for the Rockies in July.
In Bernabel's first 28 at bats, he had 14 hits. That included three home runs.

There's a reason the Rockies didn't keep him, though.
The reason stems from what happened after that 14-for-28 start.
From that point on, Bernabel hit just.189 the rest of the season.
He had a concussion in September, too, which hampered the end to the season. And he wasn't a great defender.
Bernabel did hit.301 in Triple-A in 2025, so the bat can clearly play.
His production did take a leap forward in 2025 over previous seasons, to the Nationals are betting on him continuing to improve.
It's certainly a low-risk add for the Nats.
