The Washington Nationals have finished yet another less than mediocre season, with a record of 66-96 and in last place of the NL East. However, it seems like they are trying to shake things up, as they fired their GM Mike Rizzo and manager Dave Martinez.
Now, they need to find a new skipper to lead their team. Fansided’s Jake Elman believes the Nats will go after Rocco Baldelli, who just parted ways with the Minnesota Twins.
“If the Nationals intend to reach the playoffs for the first time since their 2019 title, then they must pursue Baldelli at all costs. Not only is Baldelli an experienced manager, but he’s a former player who has been around significant turnarounds; Baldelli came up with the then-Tampa Bay Devil Rays and watched the team develop top prospects into a 2008 AL pennant winner and, perhaps most importantly, a club capable of competing with the high-spending Yankees and Red Sox,” Elman wrote.
Baldelli is a former Manager of the Year, after leading the Twins to a record of 101-62 in 2019. Like Elman wrote, Baldelli knows how to turn around a team. And that’s definitely what the Nationals need.

Hopefully, the Nats give him the tools he needs to help them succeed. The Twins didn’t, and that’s what led to them parting ways. If the Nats can, Baldelli might give them their first postseason appearance in a while.
