The Toronto Blue Jays are one of the many teams interested in Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker this winter, as both are the top options at shortstop and outfielder.
While the Blue Jays are interested in both, their chances of landing one or the other are far from a guarantee. But their odds are strong for both Bichette and Tucker. With their strong interest in both, could they find a way to sign both Bichette and Tucker?
MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided.com was asked such a question in a recent mailbag, and his answer was an interesting one. While he doesn't think it's likely that both could come to Toronto, he's not ruling out such a wild outcome from the top free agents.
Blue Jays could make wild offseason moves with Kyle Tucker, Bo Bichette
"My guess is it would be one or the other because of the overall contracts that each will demand," Murray responded. "But I've consistently heard from people around baseball that players love playing in Toronto. It's a desirable place to play..."
The Blue Jays' landing both Tucker and Bichette in free agency would be reliant upon both wanting to come to Toronto, so much so that they'd sacrifice some money to join the Blue Jays.
This has already happened once this season, as starting pitcher Shane Bieber decided to accept his $16 million player option for 2026, despite likely getting a lot more on the open market this offseason.
While the Blue Jays would need both Bichette and Tucker to give up on some of their free agent demands to make this work, if any team (other than the Los Angeles Dodgers) could pull this off, it would be the Blue Jays.
Toronto is in on both Tucker and Bichette, and while their chances of bringing in one or the other aren't bad, getting both to Toronto can't be ruled out just yet, in Murray's opinion.
It would be a wild outcome, as Tucker and Bichette are likely to combine for around $600 million in contracts this winter. But if the Blue Jays could make it work, then it would be an incredible effort to try and return to the playoffs.
