The Boston Red Sox continue to be linked to starters, despite adding Sonny Gray, and with several big-name options still available, there are a few ways they can go.
For the Toronto Blue Jays, that might even include them losing a fan favorite.
Chris Bassitt looks like a starter the Blue Jays will lose, especially if teams are willing to give him a bigger role or more money.
Rowan Kavner of FOX Sports linked the two sides, adding that Bassitt might be in the second tier, but can still help teams like Boston.
“With Dylan Cease, Michael King and now Imai off the board, there seems to be a relatively clear top three before a drop-off to the next tier, which includes Bassitt,” Kavner wrote. “The veteran right-hander will turn 37 before the start of the 2026 season, but he’s coming off an interesting year in which he registered a 3.96 ERA before emerging as a relief weapon in October for a Blue Jays team that nearly won the World Series.”
From a Toronto perspective, losing Bassitt doesn’t kill them, but it wouldn’t be ideal to see him in Boston.
Bassitt has proven that, at the very least, he can make 30 starts in a season and help a rotation every five games.
For the Red Sox, the idea is clear. Bassitt offers experience, innings, and likely a shorter-term deal compared to the aces available.
