The Toronto Blue Jays have surged back into the ALCS, tying up the series 2-2 with their win last night against the Seattle Mariners. It’s anyone’s series, but the Jays also need to think about what happens if they lose.
Getting more starting pitching should be at the top of their list. Fortunately for them, Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer believes they are the top landing spot for Houston Astros ace Framber Valdez.

“If so, it will be that much more likely Toronto will hit the market in search of starters. Valdez would be perfect for the team, as he could slot in between Gausman and Yesavage in 2026, and then take the former's place atop the rotation after his contract expires at the end of next season,” Rymer wrote.
This season, Valdez posted a 3.66 ERA, a record of 13-11, a WHIP of 1.245, and 187 Ks over 192 innings pitched. However, before his trade deadline meltdown, he posted a record of 11-4, a 2.62 ERA, and 141 Ks.

Valdez would work nicely with the Jays’ current ace, Kevin Gausman, and their upcoming ace, Trey Yesavage. Valdez serves as the transition between the two, making sure the team will have an ace before Gausman leaves and until Yesavage is ready.
If Toronto is smart, win or lose this series, they’ll be on the phone with Valdez’s camp as soon as they can. If they can acquire him, the sky’s the limit for their franchise.
