It's fair to wonder what the Toronto Blue Jays can do throughout the remainder of the offseason after they lost in the World Series in Game 7 to the Los Angeles Dodgers

There aren't a ton of ways the Blue Jays can improve, as they just showed everybody in baseball that they can compete with the best when it matters most. This Blue Jays team has some young talent, veteran guys who get the job done, and everything in between.

However, as they've shown multiple times over the past few years, the Blue Jays are always looking to go star hunting. Unfortunately, outside of signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. To a massive extension, they haven't necessarily been able to accomplish that with external options.

The easiest way to do so is via a trade, which Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report recently linked them to in a deal involving Ketel Marte of the Arizona Diamondbacks

“Marte is owed $91 million through 2030, which amounts to pennies for a guy who has averaged 30 homers and 5.3 rWAR over the last three seasons. All the same, Bob Nightengale of USA Today has reported Arizona is motivated to move him. They would presumably have to save real money in any trade they make, but not at the expense of their contention outlook for 2026. The club simply isn't giving off rebuild vibes.

“The ideal trade for the D-backs is one that would bring back established or MLB-ready talent for a rotation that badly needs help, plus a right-handed bat who could play one of the corner infield spots,” he wrote.

Why trading for Ketel Marte makes sense

Adding Marte would be simple, as it’d give the Blue Jays another very good player.

There’s a strong argument to be made that Marte is the best second baseman in baseball, and adding his offensive production, which was as good for a 145 OPS+ in 28 home runs in 2025, would be a massive addition to this Blue Jays lineup that's already proven to be very good.
