The Toronto Blue Jays are coming off their best season in a very long time, but reports have indicated that Bo Bichette could be leaving, and part of it is due to someone who has already left.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that Bichette has shown interest in playing for the Philadelphia Phillies, adding an interesting point about former Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly.

“The Phillies’ interest in potentially signing Bichette came about after the holidays when Bichette expressed a desire in playing for them, particularly after the hiring last week of Don Mattingly as their bench coach. Mattingly was the Toronto Blue Jays’ bench coach the past three years and became close to Bichette,” he wrote.

Mattingly taking a job with the Phillies was already a loss. Seeing his move possibly connected to Bichette’s future only makes things worse, but it also shows the relationship players and coaches can make.

This doesn’t mean that Bichette is definitely leaving Toronto, but it does change things.

It’s interesting that after all of these years, the Blue Jays don’t want to bring him back as much as it seems, especially with them trying to find a star, but this is what the reality looks like.
