The Toronto Blue Jays have been busy this offseason, specifically adding to their rotation. They went out and signed Dylan Cease to a seven-year, $210 million deal.
But it did not stop there. They also signed Cody Ponce to a three-year, $30 million deal. Ponce has spent the last few years in the NPB and KBO, most recently with the Hanwha Eagles.
You also cannot forget that Toronto also retained Shane Bieber after he exercised his $16 million player option to stay with the Blue Jays in 2026. That is quite the rotation for the club up North, who are coming off a World Series appearance.
Blue Jays' Cody Ponce contemplating WBC offer from Team Mexico
Ponce might be getting into game shape sooner than he thought. According to the crew over at Foul Territory, he revealed that he received a World Baseball Classic offer from Team Mexico that he is contemplating accepting.
"As of right now, I am not 100% sure that I do want to play. But, as I am now a Toronto Blue Jay, I have to talk to my team and see what they want to do, and the best wishes for me from them."
Ponce explained that he has to talk to his new club to see how they feel about the matter.
If he were to accept the offer, this would be the second national team he has played for. He was with Team USA in 2019 for the WBSC Premier12 tournament.
There are multiple Blue Jays players who have already accepted their WBC invite. This includes Vladimir Guerrero Jr., George Springer, and Jose Berrios. So, with the club being well-represented, the front office should not have any problems with Ponce choosing to play for Team Mexico if he wants to accept the club's invite.
