TL;DR

  • Toronto Blue Jays expected to be very active this offseason, aiming for significant moves.
  • MLB insider Jon Morosi suggests Blue Jays are interested in trading for Ketel Marte.
  • Ketel Marte, a switch-hitting second baseman, is reportedly available from Arizona Diamondbacks.
  • Marte's contract and performance make him an affordable and exceptional target for Toronto.

Insiders widely anticipate the Toronto Blue Jays to pursue a highly active offseason. Having reached the World Series and fallen just one game shy of victory, the Blue Jays are poised for a significant winter.

A recent report from MLB insider Jon Morosi suggests the Blue Jays might pursue trading for Bichette's replacement with Arizona Diamondbacks, despite Kyle Tucker's strong connection to Toronto.

Ketel Marte, a $105 million switch-hitting second baseman, is the player Morosi connected to the Blue Jays, along with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Jays eyeing Ketel Marte for Bichette

"I think it's at least a 50-50 chance he could be moved," Morosi reports. "The Diamondbacks are actively listening to Ketel Marte. Among the teams that have checked in, the Phillies and Blue Jays. Those teams are not on Marte's no-trade clause list."

Given Marte's strong probability of being traded, with The Blue Jays being mentioned as one of the interested clubs, it bodes well for their prospects of securing the three-time All-Star.

Although he plays second base, the Blue Jays possess the flexibility to rearrange their infield to accommodate his position. His arrival might lead to Bichette moving, yet it could still present an opportunity for a player such as Tucker to join the Toronto team.

Marte's $105 million deal runs through 2030, making him quite affordable for The Blue Jays. Beyond his years of team control and reasonable contract, Marte is also an exceptional player.

MoreToronto Blue Jays reportedly favored to sign $460 million four-time All-Star following missed opportunities for Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto in previous offseasons.

In 2025, he achieved a.283 batting average and an.893 OPS, hitting 28 home runs and accumulating 4.4 BWAR for the season. Marte also received his second consecutive All-Star selection, and at 32, he stands out as one of the top second basemen in Major League Baseball.

Despite his limited two-year postseason history, he's proven to be an exceptionally clutch batter. In the Diamondbacks' 2023 World Series journey, Marte posted a.329 batting average and a.914 OPS across 17 contests.

Acquiring Marte would be a fantastic move for The Blue Jays if they could pull it off, and it's possible because Marte doesn't have a no-trade clause restricting a deal with Toronto. While it would require a significant investment, a trade for Marte might be the kind of major transaction Toronto is aiming for this offseason.
