Rangers rumor signs 3-time All Star from Braves in free agency image

The Texas Rangers haven't been as relevant as they would've hoped since winning the 2023 World Series.

This offseason, they're doing a bit of cleaning house, having already non-tendered both Adolis Garcia and Jonah Heim.

Next up for the Rangers is figuring out how to improve the roster they've got in the hopes of returning to relevance. One spot that could happen at is DH.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand thinks the Rangers should go after Braves slugger Marcell Ozuna, a three-time All Star who became a free agent this offseason after Atlanta opted not to trade him at the deadline in July.

"The Joc Pederson experiment did not go well for the Rangers, who ranked last in the AL with a.607 OPS out of the DH spot last season," Feinsand writes. "Ozuna had a down year in Atlanta, hitting 21 home runs with 68 RBIs and a.756 OPS in 145 games, though he averaged 39 homers, 102 RBIs and a.916 OPS from 2023-24. The 35-year-old may not get back to those levels, but even last year’s production would be an upgrade for Texas."

There is reason to wonder whether last season began a true decline for Ozuna, but he's still got to be an upgrade on Pederson.

There also likely won't be a massive market for an aging DH-only player, meaning that if the Rangers want him, they can probably pony up the slightly extra money that it'd take to lure him from whatever other teams are pursuing him.

Texas isn't a club that often seeks to rebuild. The Rangers have strong pitching, and they need the bats to match so they can return to contention. Ozuna would fit that need.
