The Texas Rangers had a mediocre year this season, going 81-81. They had a serious chance to make the Wild Card this year, but they had one major kryptonite.
That weakness was their ability to close out games. The Rangers were third in the MLB when it came to the most blown saves, with 29. They need a closer that can finish games, and Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes they will, predicting they will go out and get San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez.
“With a bit of help from Emmanuel Clase's suspension and Ryan Helsley getting traded out of a closer role, Robert Suarez's 76 saves since the beginning of 2024 ranks best in the majors…Despite the third-best run differential in the American League, the Rangers only went 81-81. And, well, that'll happen when you have 29 blown saves and never had a single reliever get to 10 successful conversions. We repeatedly implored them to sign a legitimate closer last offseason. They didn't, and they learned the hard way,” Miller wrote.
Suarez finished his 2025 campaign with a 2.97 ERA, 75 Ks, a WHIP of 0.904, and 40 saves, which is the part the Rangers should care about the most.

The Rangers have what it takes to be a championship team; a star-studded rotation, a reliable lineup, and a decent bullpen. All they need is a closer to hold it down, and they could have won a bunch of those 29 games, and probably made the playoffs.
Hopefully, the Rangers go all-out in getting Suarez, so they can return to their 2023 championship selves.
