The Texas Rangers missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season following their World Series championship. Despite returning with nearly the same roster, the team hasn’t been able to recapture its postseason form. As a result, the Rangers have decided it's time to move on from manager Bruce Bochy.

“Bruce Bochy is one of the greatest managers in baseball history, and he will forever hold a place in the hearts of Ranger fans after bringing home the first World Series title in franchise history in 2023," said Chris Young, the Rangers' president of baseball operations. "Boch brought class and respect to our club in his return to the dugout, and we will always take pride in being part of his Hall of Fame career. We are grateful for everything he has given to the organization over the past few seasons and hopeful he can continue to impact the Rangers for many years to come."

With Bochy now out, the team may already have his successor lined up—someone already within their ranks.

“Skip Schumaker: Currently senior advisor to Chris Young; managed the Miami Marlins from 2023 to 2024,” ESPN wrote.

Schumaker found notable success in his time with the Marlins, earning NL Manager of the Year honors. He’s also known as a players’ coach—an attribute that resonates well in today’s clubhouse culture. Most significantly, he may be seeking redemption after the abrupt and emotional end to his first managerial stint.

“After learning the news of his grandmother’s passing, Marlins manager and family man Skip Schumaker informed his ballclub following Friday afternoon’s batting practice that he would be away from the team for the remainder of the season,” MLB.com’s Christina De Nicola wrote.

Schumaker would be a strong hire. Having already spent time within the Rangers organization, the potential move feels intentional. He’s a passionate leader who wants nothing more than to win.

If Schumaker is indeed the choice, the Rangers could be one of the most compelling teams to watch in the upcoming season.
