The St. Louis Cardinals have been selling off a lot of their veteran players this offseason, shipping Willson Contreras, Sonny Gray, and Nolan Arenado off to new teams this offseason.

More could be on the way, with Brendan Donovan potentially on the cusp of being dealt. Chaim Bloom has been selling a lot of players this offseason. But one former Cardinals player is returning to the team.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Cardinals are bringing back Yadier Molina. But, instead of Molina suiting up behind the plate, he will stay in the front office as an assistant to Bloom.

"Future Hall of Fame catcher Yadier Molina is hired by the St. Louis Cardinals to be special assistant to Chaim Bloom, president of baseball operations," Nightengale reports.

This is a fun hire from the Cardinals, as the franchise legend and future Hall of Famer is coming back to the Cardinals in a new role.

While he's not going to be on the field, he will have some impact on what players are brought in and how the team is managed going forward.

There have been a lot of moves this offseason from the Cardinals involving players being traded away, but this move is finally an addition.

While not on the field, and while the team won't be great in 2026, this hire from the Cardinals should help the team continue to build a competitive team into the future.

Molina is back in St. Louis as a special assistant to the President of Baseball Operations. Bloom and Molina will work together as they make this transition into the future under new leadership.
