The St. Louis Cardinals have reunited with a familiar face.
They've signed catcher Yohel Pozo to a new contract to keep him around for the 2026 MLB season, according to beat reporter Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
During the 2025 season, 28-year-old Pozo achieved career highs in both games played (68) and plate appearances (188).
He hit.231 with a.375 slugging percentage, although he did show a knack for pinch-hitting.
In his MLB career, Pozo has batted.248 with six home runs in 245 plate appearances.
He's been a much better hitter in his Triple-A career at.321 with a.525 slugging percentage.
Pozo also offers considerable defensive skill behind the plate, a valuable trait for someone expected to be a backup at most.
The Cardinals' catching depth likely places Pozo further down the list. Ivan Herrera, Jimmy Crooks, and Pedro Pages are also contenders for the MLB catching roles.
Pozo possesses minor league options, allowing the Cardinals flexibility to move him between Triple-A Memphis and the major league roster as needed.
St. Louis has numerous other tasks to address this offseason. They might move one or two seasoned players as they aim to usher in a new chapter.
But at least they know they've got more than enough catchers to choose from.
