While the St. Louis Cardinals continue to emerge as a playoff-contending team this regular season, they will look to continue their series-winning streak during the weekend against the San Francisco Giants.
St. Louis is still scratching at the .500 mark, somewhere they haven't been since mid-August, and are still 5.5 games behind the New York Mets for the last NL Wild Card position.
Before their game against the Giants, the team made a few roster moves.
Cardinals reinstate Yohel Pozo, demote Cesar Prieto to Triple-A
Along with news of Willson Contreras' suspension taking effect today, The Athletic's Katie Woo reported several other roster moves by the Cardinals.
St. Louis reinstated catcher Yohel Pozo from the seven-day concussion IL and optioned infielder Cesar Prieto to Triple-A Memphis.
Pozo, 28, was hit by a foul tip to his catching mask during the Aug. 28 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 2025, Pozo had a .242 batting average, .273 on-base percentage, .392 slugging percentage, and a .665 OPS while hitting five home runs and 19 RBI in 62 games played.
Prieto, 26, was called up along with the Cardinals' No. 6 prospect, Jimmy Crooks, on Aug. 29. The move was made after St. Louis sent first baseman Alec Burleson to the 10-day IL. with a sore right wrist. After taking six at-bats in three games, he finished with one hit and five strikeouts.
