Cardinals' Nolan Arenado sparks speculation on future with team image

Heading into the final week of the MLB regular season, the St. Louis Cardinals aren't quite out of postseason contention. They will need the final six games to play out perfectly to continue their season into October.

It's been an unusual 2025 season for the Cardinals, as they look to change the president of baseball operations from John Mozeliak to Chaim Bloom.

What can be expected from the Cardinals as they appear headed toward a third straight season without a playoff berth?

Nolan Arenado prepares to move on from the Cardinals

After the Cardinals' final home game Sunday, third baseman Nolan Arenado spoke about his future in St. Louis, suggesting the 34-year-old may be ready to move on after five seasons with the team.

"Whatever happens, I really enjoyed my time here. I was really happy I got traded here," Arenado told reporters on Sunday. "I have zero regrets about my decision to stay when I opted in. I love this place, but change is definitely needed."

If the future Hall of Famer is sent out to another team this offseason, it will be a sad ending to a five-year hiatus. The 2025 season was rough for Arenado, having career lows in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS.

It seems that the Cardinals are leaning towards a younger roster while continuing to rebuild the club back to its winning ways. Whether that's with or without Nolan Arenado, it will be interesting to see how the upcoming offseason plays out.
