The Seattle Mariners haven’t done much this offseason, but have lost a couple key players to their offense in Jorge Polanco and Eugenio Suarez. They managed to re-sign Josh Naylor, but they still need to replace the others.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter believes a former teammate of their star Randy Arozarena could do the trick. He proposes the Mariners go out and make a trade for Tampa Bay Rays All-Star Yandy Diaz.
The trade would look like this:
Mariners get: DH Yandy Díaz
Rays get: SS Nick Becker, C Josh Caron
“If the Mariners are going to go with some combination of Cole Young, Ben Williamson and Colt Emerson at second base and third base, it puts even more pressure on the rest of the lineup to produce. Dominic Canzone could shift to right field on the heels of his breakout 2025 campaign, with Victor Robles moving into a fourth outfielder role and Díaz slotting in as the primary DH,” Reuter wrote.
Diaz finished last season slashing.300/.366/.482/.848 with 29 doubles, 25 home runs, and 83 RBI in 150 games played. He would be a perfect sparkplug for their offense, and definitely upgrades their contact ability.
Diaz brings both power and contact to the Mariners. With him, they’d have a solid offensive core of Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, Arozarena, and Diaz. Plus, he’d be cheap, as he’s currently on a one-year, $12 million deal with a condition club option for $10 million in 2027. Even then, he’s projected to get a two-year, $33 million deal after that.
Hopefully, the Mariners realize this is a good deal and make some calls to get negotiations started.
