The Seattle Mariners, after making the ALDS and taking the Toronto Blue Jays to Game 7, are looking to bolster the roster to stay competitive in 2026.

Josh Naylor is back on a long-term deal, but with Jorge Polanco and Eugenio Suarez both free agents, the team's needs this winter revolve around the infield.

According to a recent report from Jon Morosi of MLB Network at the Winter Meetings, the Mariners are linked in trade rumors to two players, each an All-Star from the Arizona Diamondbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals, respectively.

"Another team involved used to have Ketel Marte - the Seattle Mariners," Morosi said. "The Mariners are very much involved in this infield trade market between Marte and Brendan Donovan of the St. Louis Cardinals."

The Mariners are showing interest in a trade for Diamondbacks All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte. They're also showing interest in Cardinals All-Star second baseman and outfielder Brendan Donovan.

Landing either would be a fantastic alternative to Jorge Polanco if he leaves for another team in free agency this winter.

Marte once played for Seattle back in 2015 and 2016, and whole he only played a total of 176 games over those two seasons, he proved to be a compelling player.

But the Mariners traded him to the Diamondbacks along with Taijuan Walker for Mitch Haniger, Jean Segura, and Zac Curtis. A decade later, the Mariners could reacquire the superstar second baseman amid their interest.

Donovan is a bit younger (29 years old compared to Marte's 32) and has fewer years of control (through 2027), but he would likely be a bit cheaper to acquire.

He's coming off a.775 OPS season for the Cardinals, a bit below Marte's.893 OPS in 2025. Both are good defenders, and both were All-Stars in 2025.

Landing either would be a great way to replace Polanco if he departs this winter. Morosi's report is a good sign that the Mariners are keeping tabs on the infield trade market, as their plan to add a second baseman is made clear by this trade rumor.
