The Seattle Mariners were able to put together the franchise's most successful season since 2001, making it to the ALCS before losing to the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 7.
A lot of that success came behind the mid-season additions they brought in at the trade deadline. Seattle traded for the Arizona Diamondbacks' third baseman Eugenio Suarez and first baseman Josh Naylor on separate occasions. Both of which were on rental deals.
An ongoing question was whether or not the Mariners would be able to sign them to new deals after the 2025 season. Seattle did just that on Sunday.
Mariners sign Josh Naylor to five-year deal
On Sunday, the Seattle Mariners and first baseman Josh Naylor agreed to a five-year deal. This will keep Naylor with the Mariners through the 2030 season, senior MLB insider Jeff Passan announced.
Naylor, 28, has bounced around the league over the past calendar year. The Cleveland Guardians dealt him to the Diamondbacks after the 2024 season, and Arizona sent him to Seattle in July.
Seattle was impressed with what he could bring to the table after helping lead them to the ALCS.
Through 147 games in 2025, Naylor had a.295 batting average,.353 on-base percentage,.462 slugging rate, and a.816 OPS while hitting 20 home runs, 92 RBI, and a career-high 30 stolen bases.
The Mariners now have Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, and Josh Naylor under contract through the 2029 season.
