Mariners remain favorite for $5.75 million All-Star, Gold Glove to use as perfect replacement for Jorge Polanco image

The Seattle Mariners have been looking for a replacement for Jorge Polanco ever since he signed with the New York Mets, and now, with Eugenio Suarez still in free agency, it’s looking a little more urgent to find Polanco’s replacement.

Luckily, there’s a trade to be made that could solve their problem, and they’re the favorite to do it. According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Mariners are still the favorites to trade for St. Louis Cardinals All-Star and Gold Glove Brendan Donovan.

Fansided’s Cody Williams offered his thoughts on the matter as well, stating Seattle may be a perfect fit for the team if they want to replicate their success in last year’s playoffs.

“After seeing Jorge Polanco sign in New York and with Eugenio Suarez still unsigned in free agency, the versatile Donovan would conceivably be a perfect fit for the M's in trying to replicate their ALCS run of last season — and they have the prospect capital to be able to get the Cards to move,” Williams stated.

This past season, Donovan slashed.287/.353/.422/.775 with 32 doubles, 10 home runs, and 50 RBI in 118 games played. He doesn’t have the power or switch-hitting capability of Polanco, but his Gold Glove defense and ability to be a utility man more than make up for it.

Hopefully, the Mariners get something ironed out soon, so they can focus their efforts on trying to retain Suarez or find a replacement for him as well.
