The Seattle Mariners were inches short of their first-ever World Series appearance, but they fell short in Game Seven of the ALCS. Now, in this offseason, they need to retain what they got, but also need to add another superstar.
Fansided’s Chris Landers believes that two-time World Series MVP Corey Seager is the answer. He would be an amazing upgrade from J.P. Crawford and would basically create a super team with Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, Josh Naylor, and Randy Arozarena.
“But while Naylor is a nice start, Seattle still has holes... Well, pretty much everywhere else on the infield. Top prospect Colt Emerson will be in the Majors soon enough, but whether he winds up at short or third, the Mariners will have to find an upgrade over the likes of Cole Young, Leo Rivas and Ben Williamson. Why not Seager? His older brother, Kyle, is already a franchise legend, so it's hard to believe that Seattle would be on his no-trade list. And there should be money to spend even after the Naylor deal. Seager, Julio Rodriguez, Cal Raleigh, Naylor and Randy Arozarena is one heck of a heart of the order,” Landers wrote.
This past season, Seager slashed.271/.373/.487/.860 with 19 doubles, 21 home runs, and 50 RBI in 102 games played. Combining his bat with Raleigh, Rodriguez, Naylor, and Arozarena would give the Mariners the best lineup in the AL West.
Like Landers said, it would also make fans happy to get the brother of a Seattle legend in Kyle Seager. Getting Corey would be a second coming and possibly be even better, as Seager has brought multiple teams to the promised land as a two-time World Series MVP.
Hopefully, the Mariners consider this and start building a proposal they can offer.
