The Seattle Mariners put on an amazing performance in the playoffs and were one game away from their first-ever World Series appearance. However, they fell short, and they’ll need to try again next season.
Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes they need to make a splash to take the final step to be the American League’s representative in the World Series; that splash being trading for three-time All-Star and former MVP candidate, Fernando Tatis Jr.
“This would probably be ideal for Tatis geographically, as it keeps him on the west coast (albeit on the opposite end). The Seattle Mariners are also in a position to contend for years to come, with a supercharged pitching staff and an increasingly potent offense, anchored by an MVP candidate in Cal Raleigh and a perennial All-Star in Julio Rodríguez. Seattle risks losing several major contributors this winter, however, as Eugenio Suárez, Josh Naylor and Jorge Polanco are all free agents. Depending on how that market shakes out, Seattle could find itself motivated to go all-in for a titanic talent like Tatis — especially given the depth of the Mariners' farm system,” Kline wrote.
This past season, Tatis hit.268/.368/.446/.814, with 27 doubles, 25 home runs, 71 RBI, and 32 stolen bases in 155 games. With Tatis, the Mariners would have an outfield of him, Julio Rodriguez, and Randy Arozarena, which would easily be one of the best in the American League.
Also, Cal Raleigh would have an amazing time hitting home runs and watching his RBI skyrocket, as the bat and speed of Tatis plus Rodriguez would give him consistent runners in scoring position.
Hopefully, they will start building a proposal soon. They need to capitalize on their World Series window, and this is the perfect move to do so.
