If the clutch gene is a real thing, Josh Naylor has it.

And on Tuesday night in Seattle, the Mariners' slugging first baseman showed it off in a big way.

He stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and the Mariners struggling to put away the hapless Colorado Rockies. And then he ripped a three-run double.

With the win, and other results, the Mariners clinched a playoff spot. Their magic number to clinch the AL West Division is 2.

And for Naylor, it expanded his MLB lead in a really cool category.

Since 2021, Naylor leads baseball in go-ahead hits that came in the eighth inning or later, according to Mariners PR.

This was Naylor's 20th such hit in that span.

Second place on the list is Yankees superstar Aaron Judge, with 18.

Third place is Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia, with 17.

And there's a six-player tie with 15-apiece below that.

As is pretty clear in the photograph at the top of this article, Naylor was fired up.

There are those who will say there's no such thing as clutch hitting, that RBI are all a matter of circumstance.

And sure, RBI are partially a matter of circumstance.

But some hitters find a way to slow their heart rate down, lock in and deliver. Naylor is one of those dudes, for sure.
