Mariners' Jorge Polanco contract update has new timeline for free agent signing image

Jorge Polanco doesn't want to spend the offseason in limbo.

The Seattle Mariners' free agent infielder appears close to making a crucial decision.

ESPN's Jesse Rogers reported Monday that Polanco is on the verge of signing:

"Free agent second baseman Jorge Polanco, coming off a strong 2025 season with the Seattle Mariners, is expected to sign with a team during the winter meetings."

The Mariners are believed to be invested in bringing Polanco back, based on comments earlier this offseason from their front office.

It's not known, though, whether Seattle is considered the favorite to get Polanco.

His resurgence in 2025 was a big reason the Mariners went all the way to Game 7 of the ALCS.

There's certainly a chance Polanco wants to return and run it back and see if the Mariners can get over that final hump. They've already got Josh Naylor coming back after he hit free agency, and getting Polanco back too would be great for the vibes.

In 2025, Polanco batted.265 with a.495 slugging and.821 OPS. He knocked 30 doubles and 26 home runs while driving in 78 runs. It was his best hitting season since 2021.

Can he repeat it? That's really the big question.

But even if Polanco falls off a bit, the fact that he's a switch-hitter and has some defensive versatility makes him valuable anyway. Someone will be making a solid signing when Polanco makes up his mind this week.
