Cal Raleigh has set all sorts of catching records in the 2025 MLB season for the Seattle Mariners.

This weekend, he joined Johnny Bench in one more piece of history.

This was done simply by Raleigh getting to the plate a lot, thanks to his usage as a DH on the days he's not catching.

On Saturday, Raleigh surpassed the 700 plate appearance mark for the season.

Bench, in 1974, is the only other catcher to get over 700 plate appearances in a season with at least 75% of games played as a catcher, according to Gary Hill Jr.

On the one hand, it doesn't feel like as much of an achievement as the rest of what Raleigh has done.

But in another way, it's just as remarkable.

Catching is the hardest thing to do day in and day out on a baseball diamond. It's physically taxing.

The fact that Raleigh could hit so well while catching most days was remarkable in its own right.

Add in the fact that he almost never missed a game, and it's even more impressive.

There really has never been a catching season as good as the one Raleigh is putting the finishing touches on this Sunday.

When the postseason begins, Raleigh will be in there every day hoping to do his thing.

The Mariners wouldn't mind if Raleigh kept joining Bench in the history books, because Bench knew how to win in the playoffs.
