31 Mariners hit free agency after not getting new contracts image

The Seattle Mariners' organization has lost a lot of players this week.

It's the time of year when guys who have reached the end of their minor league contracts head to free agency. Usually, this is after six years in an organization, but it can also come after separate minor league deals run out, too.

For the Mariners, the list is 31 players long. That's the second most such free agents among MLB teams behind just the Washington Nationals (34).

Baseball America provided the entire list of 31 names:

  • Nick Anderson
  • Andrew Carson
  • Hagen Danner
  • Dylan File
  • William Fleming
  • Taylor Floyd
  • Nick Fraze
  • Michael Fulmer
  • Natanael Garabitos
  • Jesse Hahn
  • Ben Hernandez
  • Leon Hunter
  • Casey Lawrence
  • Michael Mariot
  • Nick Payero
  • Collin Snider
  • Gabriel Sosa
  • Anthony Tomczak
  • Matt Cronin
  • Josh Fleming
  • Harold Melenge
  • Adam Seminaris
  • Freuddy Batista
  • Jose Caguana
  • Blake Hunt
  • Jacob Nottingham
  • Beau Taylor
  • Milkar Perez
  • Austin Shenton
  • Jack Lopez
  • Cade Marlowe

Michael Fulmer has the most impressive prospect pedigree and MLB resume of the bunch. He'll likely get a new contract in short order and could still have more major league time in his future.

Jacob Nottingham was once a promising catching prospect and should continue to hang around on the fringes of the majors.

Cade Marlowe and Jesse Hahn are two other players who could get a chance to return to the major leagues at some point.

The Mariners will be able to replenish from all over baseball, as every team has a bunch of minor league players who have elected free agency this week.
