The San Francisco Giants have been hard at work since their season ended. They fired manager Bob Melvin with one more year left on his contract.
It did not take long for Buster Posey and the front office to pick their newest skipper. They went with Tony Vitello, who had been with the University of Tennessee since 2018, helping them win a national championship in 2024.
Now, the club will look to fill in some holes over the winter. Watch out for them to pick up another arm or two to help bolster the starting rotation behind Logan Webb and Robbie Ray.
Giants working on deal to bring Bruce Bochy back to San Francisco
The Giants want to set up their newest manager for success. He does not have any experience at the big-league level, but he may not need it as he could receive some huge help from Bruce Bochy, who managed San Francisco from 2007-2019.
The club is finalizing a deal to bring him into an advisory position, via the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser.
"The San Francisco Giants chairman indicated the team is formalizing an advisory position for three-time World Series champion manager Bruce Bochy. This comes as no surprise; when Brochy stepped back from the Rangers after the season, the consensus was that he'd find a role with [the] Giants awaiting him."
Bochy could be a great mentor for Vitello. However, that is not everything the newest manager will have at his disposal. Vitello will also have Dusty Baker to bounce ideas off of, as he is the special advisor to baseball operations.
