Giants trade pitch lands Yankees' 30-30 All-Star infielder to pair with Willy Adames image

As the offseason moves along, talks of an extension between second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. And the New York Yankees are quiet. 

With just under six weeks remaining until spring training, a new contract with the Yankees feels unlikely for Chisholm, spurring rumors that New York will entertain trade offers for the two-time All-Star. 

The San Francisco Giants could use an upgrade at the position. Tyler Fitzgerald and Christian Koss don't appear to be long-term solutions at second base, and Jackson Roberts of Newsweek proposes the Giants could pursue Chisholm in a trade. 

"It's been a long time since the Giants had anything resembling an All-Star at second base. Chisholm just put up a 4.2 bWAR season, and the last Giant to reach that figure was recently announced Hall of Famer Jeff Kent in 2002," wrote Roberts. "In fact, no Giants second baseman has even topped the 3-WAR threshold since Ray Durham in 2006." 

The potential duo of Chisholm and Adames 

Chisholm and Giants shortstop Willy Adames did not hit for much average, but they would've combined for 61 home runs this past season. That's rare power production from the starting middle infield duo of one club. 

"If nothing else, the thought of Chisholm bat flipping a bomb into McCovey Cove should be enough to get Giants fans excited about the idea of making this trade," Roberts added. "And if they pulled it off, an infield of Matt Chapman, Willy Adames, Chisholm, and Rafael Devers might well be the best in the sport this year." 

This past season, Chisholm became the third player in Yankees franchise history to join the 30-30 club, smashing 31 home runs while stealing 31 bases in 39 attempts. The only other former Yankees to accomplish the feat are Bobby Bonds and Alfonso Soriano.
