Giants trade pitch grabs Freddy Peralta from Brewers to pair with Logan Webb image

TL;DR

  • San Francisco Giants may need unconventional strategies to acquire top players due to a weak farm system.
  • A potential trade involves Freddy Peralta from the Milwaukee Brewers for Landen Roupp and Jhonny Level.
  • Roupp, a 27-year-old pitcher, had a breakout 2025 season and is controllable through 2030.
  • This trade could allow the Brewers to remain competitive while acquiring a pitcher for the Giants.

Teams such as the San Francisco Giants, which possesses a less than stellar farm system, will probably need to devise unconventional strategies if they aim to acquire any of the premier players potentially on the market this winter.

Among the options that could make sense for San Francisco is Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers, while they could look to move on from big league talent like Peralta to save money in the future, will also want to remain competitive.

There was a strong argument to be made last year that the Brewers were the best team in baseball, at least in the regular season.

Relinquishing all of that would be a difficult choice, particularly considering the National League Central's poor state and Milwaukee's consistent capacity to contend within it.

The Athletic's Jim Bowden suggested a concept that would enable the Brewers to remain competitive and simultaneously provide San Francisco with a pitcher of Peralta's caliber.

His trade would move on from 27-year-old Landen Roupp and 18-year-old Jhonny Level.

The Giants possess a pitcher ready for their rotation and a prospect for the middle infield who might benefit the Brewers down the line.

“Roupp, 27, had his breakout season at the major-league level in 2025 before suffering a left knee sprain in late August that didn’t require surgery but ended his season. Before that, he made 22 starts, posting a 3.80 ERA with 102 strikeouts in 106 2/3 innings. Batters struggled against his secondary pitches, highlighted by the fact that they hit just.197 against his curveball and.192 against his changeup. He profiles as a mid-rotation type starter but is controllable through 2030,” he wrote.

Roupp stands out as the most significant name in this San Francisco trade, and while Level certainly sparks interest, it's appropriate to note his youth and the inherent uncertainties associated with players of that age.
