The San Francisco Giants have a clear need to address the pitching staff this offseason. While the starting rotation is the biggest issue to address, they did need to add a few bullpen arms this winter.

One of the ways the Giants are planning to address the trade deadline departures of Tyler Rogers and Camilo Doval is by signing a few cheaper free agents to one-year deals.

The Giants announced one such deal by signing a former Detroit Tigers right-handed reliever to a one-year, $2 million deal. Jason Foley, the 30-year-old righty, is coming to San Francisco.

Foley is a 30-year-old right-hander pitcher who is an undrafted free agent who's made his mark on the Major Leagues already.

He's pitched in four seasons in his career so far, and across 210 games in his four seasons with the Tigers, he's put up a solid 3.16 ERA.

Foley had a 3.15 ERA in 39 appearances for the Tigers in 2025, recording 28 saves in 60 innings pitched with 46 strikeouts and 20 walks allowed. His 1.183 WHIP was the second lowest it's been in his career, and he's an intriguing free agent signing for the Giants.

As Jesse Rogers of ESPN reported, this deal is for $2 million total. It's a very reasonable deal for the Giants, especially for a reliever who's shown the ability to be a quality option out of the bullpen.

In 2024, Foley had a 2.61 ERA in 70 games for the Tigers. That was his best season, and his FIP was also impressive at 2.73.

Foley is a very interesting signing for the Giants, as there's a chance there's a lot more here than meets the eye. It's a cheap rental option that, if it doesn't work out, won't cost the Giants much of anything.

But, based on his recent production, this is a worthwhile contract to hand out, as he could be what helps the Giants round out their new-look bullpen in 2026.
