It was a long shot for Jaylin Davis to get to the major leagues at all.

The Minnesota Twins took him as a 24th-round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft out of Appalachian State.

But then Davis got into games in four different MLB seasons for two different teams, the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox.

He was a strong minor league hitter, even though that never fully translated in the bigs.

And now, Davis is calling it a career.

Davis posted on his Instagram last week to announce his retirement.

"After a lot of thought, I’ve decided to hang up the cleats and officially retire from professional baseball," Davis wrote. "I’m beyond grateful for every part of the journey — the long bus rides, rain delays, and late-night Waffle House runs, but most of all, the friendships and memories that came with them.

"Baseball has taken me places I never dreamed of and taught me lessons I’ll carry for the rest of my life."

Davis finished his career with 87 MLB at bats and two home runs.

He played for the Giants in 2019 and 2020, and the Red Sox in 2021 and 2022.

He retires at 31 years old. Davis spent the past two seasons playing independent ball.

"This game has been a blessing, and while this chapter closes, I’m excited for what’s next," Davis concluded his IG post.
