The San Francisco Giants have been quiet this offseason and haven’t made any meaningful moves. With their division rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers, making their dynasty even more powerful, the Giants need to come up with an answer.

According to Fansided’s Zachary Rotman, the Giants could be a dark horse to sign former MVP and All-Star Cody Bellinger. Bellinger would fill their corner infielder need and would bring another solid bat to San Francisco.

“Oracle Park would not be a great fit for Bellinger's bat, but the San Francisco Giants could use a corner outfielder, and Bellinger is by far the best attainable option. Yes, he'd cost a lot, and that could be problematic for a Giants team that's shown no willingness to spend this winter, but perhaps Buster Posey will come to the realization that the only way the Giants can make the playoffs is by improving their roster…Bellinger would be a massive upgrade over what they've got, even with his flaws, and he'd give the Giants the best chance to win now in the primes of their stars' careers. The Giants' need to do something puts them on this list, even if it's unlikely to amount to anything,” Rotman wrote.

This past season, Bellinger slashed.272/.334/.480/.813 with 25 doubles, 29 home runs, and 98 RBI in 152 games played. He would be an instant upgrade over Drew Gilbert and would form a respectable outfield with Jung Hoo Lee and Heliot Ramos.

However, he is projected to receive a six-year, $182 million deal, and that might not be ok with the Giants. Although, the Giants did spend a lot last season by acquiring Willy Adames and Rafael Devers; what’s to stop them from getting Bellinger?

Hopefully, the Giants really consider pursuing Bellinger, as he could be their chance to really compete with the Dodgers.
