The San Francisco Giants certainly wouldn't mind another talented arm in their pitching rotation.
And a new trade rumor has the Giants linked to acquiring a former first-round pick who just had a 2.55 ERA in 2025.
That southpaw pitcher is Kris Bubic of the Kansas City Royals.
ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel listed the Giants as one of the possible landing spots for Bubic, who they give a 30% chance of being moved this offseason.
"The former first-round pick finally broke out last year, earning an All-Star bid with a sub-3.00 ERA and the peripherals to match," the ESPN duo writes. "Then, he suffered a shoulder injury and didn't pitch in August or September. Any deal for Bubic is a bet on his health, and though Kansas City might have to tap into its rotation to get an outfield bat, he is perhaps the best combination of performance and affordability, questions notwithstanding."

The Giants are one of seven teams listed as a possible landing spot for Bubic, along with the Mets, Orioles, Rangers, Diamondbacks, Padres and Angels.
If the Royals indeed shop the lefty, he'll have a solid market.
"Bubic added a slider in 2025 to bridge the gap between his fastball, changeup and sweeper, and it helped him look like a frontline pitcher for 20 starts, even as his fastball velo decreased a tick due to his longer outings," Passan and McDaniel write. "He's not the same pitcher as fellow Royals lefty Cole Ragans, but a pretty similar situation (transitioning from reliever to starter with Kansas City in 2023) happened with him, and Ragans posted 4.9 WAR in his next season, en route to a fourth-place AL Cy Young finish in 2024."

The Giants do have a few promising prospects who could be a key part of landing a pitcher.
If they decide pitching is really a priority, Bubic could be the kind of mid-tier acquisition that makes the most sense.
