The San Francisco Giants are looking to upgrade their pitching staff, but are not likely to trade valuable future assets to do so.
First base prospect Bryce Eldridge got his first cup of coffee in the Major Leagues last year, playing 10 games with the Giants. The 6-foot-7, 21-year-old hit 18 home runs at Triple-A Sacramento in 2025 and has a chance to be San Francisco's first baseman of the future.
In an appearance on KNBR, Giants broadcaster Dave Flemming said he does not envision the club trading Eldridge.
“I don’t think they want to trade Bryce Eldridge, I don’t…I’m pretty bullish on him…I think Tony [Vitello] and the new staff are really excited to work with him and see what they can get out of him," Flemming said.
Eldridge can be an 'impact bat' in MLB
Eldridge was the 16th overall pick in the 2023 draft by the Giants and has experienced contact issues. A physical comparison can be made between Eldridge and New York Yankees prospect Spencer Jones, who is listed at an identical 6-foot-7, 240 pounds.
Giants president of baseball operations, Buster Posey, thinks Eldridge will manage to improve on his contact issues and become one of MLB's best hitters.
“I think he's got a chance to be one of the biggest impact bats for the next 10 to 15 years in the big leagues, potentially," Posey told The San Francisco Standard at the general manager meetings. "We'll listen, but we like him a lot."
