The top free agent in baseball this offseason is widely accepted to be Kyle Tucker.
The much more unknown reality is where Tucker might end up, on a contract that could exceed $300 million.
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand took a crack at breaking it down in his offseason free agent rankings that came out this week. He lists three teams as the best fit for Tucker: the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs.
Tucker just concluded a season with the Cubs that was strong early and dwindled late.
But he's a star, an.865 career OPS signifying his career-long consistency.
"Tucker started his first season with the Cubs on a tear, hitting 17 home runs with 52 RBIs, 20 stolen bases and a.931 OPS through June," Feinsand wrote. "A right hand fracture might have contributed to Tucker’s step back offensively in July and August, but he remains the best and most well-rounded player on the free-agent market this winter, having been worth at least 4.0 fWAR in every year since 2021."

The Cubs likely had hopes of keeping Tucker around when they initially acquired him from the Astros. He certainly wasn't a bad guy to have for a season. But if they could then lock him down for another decade, that'd be much more exciting.
The Dodgers find themselves all over these sorts of discussions.
It's the Giants who are most fascinating, because they rarely get deals like this over the line. That makes it feel like one of these days, they're going to commit so fully to getting a player that it actually works.
Maybe Tucker is that guy. He'd join Rafael Devers as cornerstones for a long time in the Bay Area. The Giants certainly wouldn't mind that outcome.
