The San Francisco Giants’ prospect situation obviously hasn’t worked out as well as many hoped over the past few years, but that doesn’t mean they should move on from certain players just for the sake of it.
At the end of the day, the Giants are still a decent team, and keeping some of their young talent around long term could benefit the organization if things break the right way.
However, with some of their prospects struggling when it mattered most, even if it was just a cup of coffee in the big leagues, including Bryce Eldridge, it might not be a bad idea to move on now while there’s still decent value.
A few years ago, Eldridge could have landed the Giants one of the better players in baseball, but the same can’t necessarily be said right now.
Regardless, according to the latest from Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Giants are listening on him this winter.
"The Cardinals will move Brendan Donovan, the Giants will listen on Bryce Eldridge, the Padres are shopping Jake Cronenworth and Nick Pivetta, the Astros are trying to move Christian Walker and Jake Meyers, the Royals will move a starter for a power-hitting left fielder and the Red Sox will trade Jarren Duran if they get the right corner infielder or starting pitcher," Bowden wrote.
Hopefully for the Giants, they’ll be able to land an above-average player in return for his services.
