Sunday was a day to remember for 24-year-old San Francisco Giants prospect Drew Gilbert. It had not been a great start for the lefthander who played his college baseball at the University of Tennessee.

Coming into Sunday, Gilbert was just 1-for-18, and he started his career with no hits in his first 10 at-bats.

But the breakout came Sunday with two hits, including a monster home run to right field. It was a solo homerun to put them up 5-0. Gilbert later drove in a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Giants later won the game 7-1 over the Tampa Bay Rays. San Francisco, with the win, snapped their seven-game losing streak. They are now 60-64 on the season, and seem to be out of the race for both the National League West and the wildcard.

Tampa Bay had its three-game winning streak snapped. Tampa Bay is now 61-64 on the season.

The Rays are off Tuesday and will host the Yankees and Cardinals next week. The Giants - they are on the road at the San Diego Padres for four games, and then head to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers for a weekend series.
