TL;DR

  • San Diego Padres signed Pablo Reyes to a minor-league deal with a spring training invite.
  • Reyes, 32, has played seven MLB seasons, hitting .245 with a .272 average against lefties.
  • He offers versatile defensive skills across infield and outfield positions, plus pitching experience.
  • Reyes previously played for the Yankees and Mets, excelling in Triple-A Syracuse for the latter.

The San Diego Padres have added some versatile infield depth to their organization.

The latest addition to the Padres roster is Pablo Reyes, whose name may ring a bell as he was previously signed by both the Yankees and the Mets within the past year.

The Padres have signed Reyes to a minor-league agreement that is expected to grant him an invitation to major league spring training, according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America.

He's a 32-year old who has played in parts of seven MLB seasons.

Reyes is a career.245 hitter across 259 games. He hits lefties to the tune of a.272 clip.

At the Major League Baseball level, Reyes has played defensively at first base, second base, shortstop, third base, left field, center field, and right field, in addition to pitching for five innings.

Reyes made the Yankees' 2025 Opening Day roster. He batted.194 for the Yanks.

The Yankees DFA'd him in June, and he signed a minor league deal with the Mets.

Reyes wasn't promoted to the majors by The Mets. He performed exceptionally at Triple-A Syracuse, achieving a.289 batting average and a.484 slugging percentage.

While the Padres boast solid starting pitchers, they might lack versatile backup options. Reyes fills that need, offering a strong possibility of making the roster, particularly due to his skill against left-handed pitchers and his demonstrated ability to play multiple positions.
