The MLB regular season is drawing to a close, and the San Diego Padres will have to make some big decisions as they prepare for the postseason next month.
When thinking about the preparation for the Padres, one or two players will have to be left off the postseason roster.
In this case, one of those players could be starting pitcher Randy Vasquez.
Insider: Randy Vasquez could be player left off Padres postseason roster
Randy Vasquez, 26, is competing for innings on a Padres pitching staff loaded with veteran talent. Michael King recently returned from injury, Nick Pivetta delivered another dominant outing on Wednesday, and despite inconsistent regular seasons, Dylan Cease and Yu Dravish are being paid to perform when it matters the most.
With all that said, Vasquez's best chance would be in the bullpen, and relief guys haven't been an issue this season (even with Jason Adam suffering a season-ending injury).
MLB insider Chris Landers of FanSided also believes that Vasquez will have to be the "odd man out."
Although the 26-year-old has put together a productive season for the Padres – posting a 4-6 record with a 3.91 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 24 appearances – his spot on the playoff roster will likely depend on an injury coming up in October.
