One of the biggest moves at the trade deadline came when the San Diego Padres sent top prospect Leo De Vries, along with a strong supporting cast of prospects, to the Athletics for Mason Miller and JP Sears.
It was a strong package heading to the Athletics, and De Vries was the headliner. He was, by far, the highest-ranked prospect traded at the MLB trade deadline, as he was ranked third overall by MLB Pipeline.
A little over two weeks since joining the Athletics organization, according to Francys Romero of Beisbolfr.com, De Vries is getting called up to Double-A by the Athletics.

De Vries, 18, hit .246 with 10 home runs in 97 games at High-A between Lake Elsinore and Lansing.
Why Did De Vries Get Called Up?
During his time in the Athletics organization, De Vries impressed in High-A, hitting .268 with an .856 OPS in 15 games. His production was enough for the Athletics, as they called him up to Double-A after a little over two weeks in the organization.
Between the Padres and Athletics organizations in High-A, the 18-year-old has a .249 batting average with a .780 OPS, along with 91 hits, 55 runs scored, 21 doubles, seven triples, 10 home runs, and 58 RBIs.
His production has been solid, and the Athletics made the call to bring him up a level to close out the 2025 minor league season. He's one of the top prospects in baseball for a reason, and his call-up to Double-A was only a matter of time.
After the trade to the Athletics, De Vries remained third overall in baseball on MLB Pipeline's Top-100 prospect rankings. He's the Athletics' top prospect, and after a strong debut in the organization, they are calling him up to Double-A at the end of the year.

It's been an impressive season for the 18-year-old, and now he's moving up the minor leagues, getting one step closer to the Major Leagues. With the Athletics' young core, De Vries could be a big piece of the franchise in the future.
Meanwhile, Miller has been great for the Padres, and Sears is quality pitching depth in the rotation for a team that has dealt with inconsistency and injuries in their rotation.
While De Vries is over a year away from his MLB debut, this promotion is getting him one step closer to making it to the Major Leagues. Following his development will be of interest for the Padres, as he will be the benchmark for evaluating the blockbuster trade for Mason Miller.
