The San Diego Padres are going to have to address some real problems this offseason, as two of their starting pitchers, Dylan Cease and Michael King, could leave in free agency. They need to be aggressive in at least keeping one of their starters, and maybe going after a new one.
Fansided’s Robert Murray believes the latter will happen, and the Padres will try and trade for Milwaukee Brewers two-time All-Star pitcher Freddy Peralta.

“But teams will come calling Milwaukee and there will be intriguing offers for Peralta, who has one year remaining on his contract…And gosh, this feels like something Padres executive A.J. Preller would really like. The Padres need starting pitching, with Dylan Cease and Michael King facing uncertain futures after this season. Maybe Preller looks to the free-agent market instead after gutting the farm system at the trade deadline. But I expect him to call,” Murray wrote.
Peralta has been a beast this season, with a record of 17-6, an ERA of 2.68, 201 strikeouts, and a WHIP of 1.071 over 174 innings pitched. If the Padres were to acquire Peralta, he could honestly take the position of ace from Nick Pivetta, or at least be co-aces.

The only snag with this theoretical is that the Brewers LOVE Peralta. He’s an amazing pitcher, and a great clubhouse guy. The Brewers might just pony up and pay Peralta big money, as he loves it there, and would like to stay.
Hopefully, the Padres give the Brewers an offer they can’t refuse, and the Padres get another flamethrower in their rotation.
