The San Diego Padres are heading into an important 2025-2026 offseason. With Michael King and Dylan Cease hitting free agency, the Padres need to figure out their starting rotation.
But the bullpen is also an area of concern. All-Star closer Robert Suarez is a free agent, and while Mason Miller will take on a larger role, the rest of the bullpen is an area of concern.
Fortunately, as Annie Helibrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports, another Padres All-Star reliever shared some encouraging news.
Padres' All-Star reliever Jason Adam shares encouraging update on injury recovery
Late in the season, Padres reliever Jason Adam suffered a season-ending ruptured quad tendon while on the mound in early September. It's not an easy road to recovery, but Adam shared with Hellibrunn that he's making great progress.

"Rehab is going well for Jason Adam," Hellibrunn reports. "Said there's a chance he will be ready for Opening Day, but if not, should be early in the season."
The 34-year-old reliever, who had an All-Star 2025 season, could be a huge piece of the Padres' bullpen once he returns in 2026.
He had a 1.93 ERA in 65 games pitched heading into the final month of the season. Adam had an 8-4 record, 2.4 bWAR, and 70 strikeouts in 65.1 innings pitched.

After being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in 2024, Adam has been incredible for the Padres. In the 27 games he pitched in 2024 with the Padres, he had a 1.01 ERA across 26.2 innings with 31 strikeouts and seven walks.
Getting Adam back into the bullpen will be massive for the Padres. He was sorely missed in the playoffs, and with his recovery going well, San Diego could have one of their all-Star relievers back in time for Opening Day.
But, even if he isn't ready for the start of the season, Adam is expected to return in the early goings of the 2026 season. It's some very encouraging news on a key part of the Padres' pitching staff prior to the 2026 season.
