Free agent designated hitter Kyle Schwarber

Hold the phones, the Pittsburgh Pirates might actually be doing something.

An organization that hasn't signed a singular free agent to a multi-year deal since Ivan Nova back in 2016 could be on the prowl for one of the best hitters in this year's MLB free agency class.

According to ESPN's MLB insider Jeff Passan, Pittsburgh is expected to be pursuing free agent designated hitter Kyle Schwarber. Schwarber put together one of the all-time seasons from a designated hitter and will command quite the payday in free agency.

Schwarber posted a slash line of.240/.365/.563, good for a.928 OPS. His 56 home runs were second most to the Mariners' Cal Raleigh and Schwarber's 132 RBI led of all of MLB. He posted a career best 4.7 WAR from strictly DH, surpassing his previous best of 3.5 from last season.

Most of the big market teams are expected to be in on Schwarber, so it was shocking to read that a team and organization such as Pittsburgh is interested. Especially considering Schwarber and his agency could very well be looking for $100 million or more.

What a shocking turn of events it would be to see Schwarber return to the National League Central and a what a sight it would be to watch some of the majestic home runs he would hit out of PNC Park.
